INTRUDUCTION

The aim of this report is to present the National secondary school athletics competition. It focuses on the schedule of the competition and achievments of Gimnazija Jesenice students. The report is written by one of the competitors on request of English teacher as part of the ITS subject. It will be published on students websides.

SCHEDULE AND ORGANISATION

Students started their competition day on October 13th at seven o’clock. Each team had chosen six competitors to represent their school. The bus took them to the athletic stadium in Maribor, where they started with the ceremony. Athletes had a chance to listen to the worldwide known ski jumper Primož Peterka and after motivational speech Slovenian anthem was played.

At eleven the competitors stared and the audience cheered from the grandstand. Each student was allowed to compete in only one discipline, consenquently some of the students ended their perfomance sooner than others. During the competition each competitor was given lunch box. It contained a sendwich, an apple, chocholate bar and a juice.The competition ended at 13.30. Awards ceremony was attended by the most successful teams.

ACHIEVMENTS

Firstly, students needed to qualify for the national competition, which was a huge achievment for Gimnazija Jesenice.

students competed in eight different disciplines; 100 m, 400 m, 1000 m, 2000 m, high jump, long jump and 4×400 m.

The most successful student was Miha Klofutar, consequently, he got a cup and many congratulations. The girl team of Gimnazija Jesenice came and boys team took the fifth place. A great performance was also done by several individuals; Nik Kozelj took the first place in 100m with his personal record 11,23 s.

COMMENTS

Students enyojed a different school day and it was a great experience and an opportunity for all competitors. They were surprised and grateful that they were watched and supported by the headteacher, mag. Lidija Dornig. As a totem of appreciation for taking part, students were given a headband, lovely and unexpected award.
